There are so many game streaming services popping up, with so many idiosyncrasies, that it’s hard to keep it all straight. In this video, James takes Linus through a tour testing GeForce Now, Google Stadia, Microsoft Project Xcloud, and Sony PlayStation Now to see which one makes the most sense...except we didn't try Shadow.

One thing that I think is cool about stadia is it will adjust to the controller you have. Like if I'm playing on a dualshock X will be X and not square.

Streaming just isnt there yet. For fast reaction/quick input games. Like first person shooters/competitive multiplayer, racing games. Its just an overly enjoyable experience. The latency blatantly takes your attention off of the game itself. Ive used Xcloud quite a bit. On the go. Using a wi/fi connected Note 9 and also on a cellular connected tablet. Xcloud is more than serviceable. To just mess around on casual games. Games like Minecraft, City Builders and even turn based games like the original Final Fantasy 7. Which is on Xbox. Its a very good option. The worst part of Xcloud. Is you have to be in a place with a pretty top end connection. The connection to the Xbox server. Is always worse than your local service quality. So if your going in with a subpar signal. Less than 3 or 4 bars. It is very easy to have a buggy experience. Things like your character continuing to walk/spin. For another 5 or more seconds. After you release the joystick. Or the screen will tear or not refresh as it should. With your movements. It is certainly nowhere near replacing local hardware. But if your on the go. Or maybe your only option at the moment while in quarantine. Lol Xcloud is certainly nice to have as a secondary option. The best thing I have found about Xcloud. If you have a friend at the house. If you log into the friends account on your xbox. Then log into xcloud on a tablet or device. It allows you to have a form of couch coop. On alot of games, that dont actually have a legit split screen, couch coop mode. But it has to be done. On one of the games available for free from Microsoft. On the "Cloud Streaming" portion of Xcloud. It wont work if you play the "Console Streaming" mode. Since you cant both be logged in and playing on 1 console. But its a very viable option. It made a weekend much more enjoyable with a house guest. Being able to play Forza Horizon 4 together. Each under our different accounts at the same time in the same home. With only 1 Xbox console. But overall. Yes, All of the streaming options have a ways to go. Until they are even close to replacing Local hardware. Hopefully the denser availability and instant latency. That will be coming soon. With the jump to 5G internet speeds. Will be a big advancement in the game streaming world. Hopefully. While not being a necessity. Having a quality way to stream games. Is certainly a luxury. Alot of people will enjoy being able to have. Whether it replaces home consoles or not. I hope it does not. People seem to debate local or game streaming as an "Either Or" decision. Instead of thinking it is, "An option in addition to" home hardware. Right now, Ill give it a 5 or 6 out of 10. Sometimes a little less than desired. But largely not that close. To the expected standard of local.

This Nvidia thing is a good system. Lag is more of an issue, it costs money monthly, it limits your playtime and if you are unlucky it says that you are not allowed to play right now because your virtual big brother is playing. Cool beans...

Rich clowns reviewing cloud gaming that is meant for consumers that DON'T want to spent 600-1200 on hardware to play a game Of course it will look a little less detailed and yes it will have miniscule input lag Need to talk about $$ for this comparison to be worth anything

@Slide Ways I have it I only pay for 100mbs which I have been paying for a couple years now for ps4 and my wife likes to stream It works great for me the requirement is only 35 for 4k which isn't much at all The mayority of people in developed countries already have high speed internet

I'm honestly really happy to see you give this a fair shake, and not just dismiss streaming in some elitest pc tirade (as many other outlets and publications I saw do). As someone in the camp of only having a laptop that can't run games, this has finally after years given me access to many games that were previously completely cut off to me. Tried GeForce a few times, running comp games (Siege, CSGO) and while there were a few moments (1-2 seconds) of dropped frames/connection, it ran without much noticeable delay.

  • Urban Neptune
    Urban Neptune

The answer is simple as this, until game companies remove the option of physical consoles and everyone has Gig downloads speeds will it be accepted by gamers especially competitive gamers. No one is going to play on the cloud when physical consoles offer a gaming advantage, remove the advantage and players will be fine with it knowing they're all playing under same conditions.
